Level 2

CAN is the foundation for communication networks on our Alexander Dennis buses.

Whether you are dealing with power-train, multiplex body, or a variety of other networks on our buses you will undoubtedly come across this method of sending large amounts of data rapidly between modules and systems.

Our aim with this course is not to create confusion with “Bits”, “Bytes” or decoding messages. We focus on the structure of the system, how it functions and what it needs to function, then how to approach and diagnose faults with a multimeter when the components or systems fail.

Course content

  • Classroom presentation for demonstration, identification and testing
  • System overview: Components, layout and operation
  • Validating the fault and vehicle functional operation across CAN systems
  • Investigating CAN networks; how they work, fault-finding & testing
  • Practical tasks including finding pre-set faults on bus
  • Using digital multimeter to improve fault finding techniques.
  • Written/online assessment

Additional Information

  • Students must provide their own clean safety shoes for workshop areas.
  • Joining instructions and site information will be sent to you.
